Animal Evaluation

Genomically Enhanced Breeding Value Estimation

Integration of genomic data into BW in June 2009

There was a new information source derived from DNA data in the Animal Evaluation System from 20 June 2009 onwards.

Genetic information about every animal is contained in its DNA.  Technology now allows the genotyping of dairy animals for over 40,000 different DNA markers across the whole genome.  Each animal’s genomic profile is unique except for identical twins — for example, full brothers have different genomic profiles.  This genotyping technology provides a new information source for genetic evaluations.
