Animal Evaluation

Trait Evaluations

Trait Evaluations are an estimate of an animal's genetic merit (Breeding Value) for individual traits, including milkfat (kg), protein (kg), volume (litres), liveweight (kg), fertility (%), somatic cell (score) and residual survival (days).

The estimated Breeding Values are expressed relative to a base of 0.  The base of zero represents the average breeding value estimated for all 2000 born cows measured for 3 production traits (milkfat, protein, milk) and 17 traits other than production (TOP), which include liveweight, management and conformation traits.

An estimated breeding value of +10kg protein indicates a bull will have daughters that are genetically superior by 5kg protein per lactation above the base cows (a bull can pass half of its BV, on average, to its daughters).
